Quitting smoking with an app is possible

Most nicotine addicts fail to quit smoking at least once in their lives. This is where non-smoking apps can help. On behalf of a leading health insurance company, we implemented an app that efficiently supports the path to becoming a non-smoker. In addition to the requirements for the protection of sensitive health data, the development of a smart helper was in the foreground. The app had to be intuitive, motivating and goal-oriented.

Whether reward system, visualization or teamwork - in the fight against nicotine, motivation in particular is crucial. And this is exactly where the strengths of our developed non-smoking app lie.

Proactive features such as the ability to set a quit date, a smoking diary, a helpful checklist, and documentation of smoking cravings help users quit smoking. After setting the stop-smoking date, the app shows in detail what smoking causes in the body, what costs are involved and how to get rid of it. A wide range of information is provided directly in the app. By linking the health insurance company's bonus program, a useful incentive has been created in the app to reward users' perseverance.

A new, user-friendly login and authentication process was also implemented, taking into account the legal requirements for protecting sensitive health data.


Implementation of the app

The iOS app was programmed entirely in SwiftUI. SwiftUI is a declarative UI framework that was released just a few years ago. We made a conscious decision to use the new technology instead of still relying on the old framework (UIKit), which, for one, is still used in many older apps.

 All apps were implemented using a native toolset and planned and organized by a Scrum master using the agile method. The development was done by a multiplatform developer who planned the software architectures, interfaces and APIs. In addition, developers for other specific platforms and the server were also used.
